Galway United picked up their first point of the U19 season on Sunday afternoon at the City Calling Stadium, drawing 0-0 away to Longford Town.

In the first half, Conor Melody ghosted past two Longford Town defenders before drawing a fine save from goalkeeper McGoey.

Longford Town striker Daryl Carrigy broke away and he pulled the ball back across goal but it evaded everybody.

On the hour mark, United goalkeeper Peter Healy, backtracking, pulled off an unbelievable save to deny Carrigy. The former Mervue United goalkeeper helped Carrigy’s header over the crossbar with a strong hand.

Mo Assogba overlapped down the right wing before picking out Andrew Connolly in the box, Connolly nodded the ball down at goal but Longford goalkeeper McGoey saved easily.

Fifteen minutes from time, Longford Town then rattled the crossbar.

Peter Healy was well positioned to cut out a Longford Town free-kick 3 minutes from time and the sides had to be satisfied with a share of the spoils.
