MATCH SUMMARY

Kicking off the weekend, Galway United’s Senior Men’s side face Derry City at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium. This encounter marks their first meeting since 2017 where United came away with a 2-1 victory at Eamonn Deacy Park. A lot has changed since though for both sides. It is promising an exciting clash as the Tribesmen seek to secure vital points on the road.

• We’ve played Derry 70 times before with 19 wins, 13 draws and 38 defeats.
• From 32 away games we’ve won 5, drawn 7 and lost 20. All but one of those matches was at Brandywell (we lost against them in Maginn Park in Buncrana when Brandywell was being rebuilt in 2017.
• Our last meeting with them was in September 2017 and we beat them 2-1 at home.

• Our last away win was nearly 9 years ago when we won 2-0 up there on the 8th May 2015. First half goals from Ryan Connolly and Jake Keegan gave us the win, though the game finished in unusual circumstances with their striker Anthony Elding ending up playing in goal as their starting goalkeeper Gerard Doherty went off injured before their sub keeper also got injured in the second half and couldn’t continue!

• Their sub keeper Tadgh Ryan is the only ex-United player on their books at the moment. He played 26 times for us keeping 4 clean sheets.
• Conor McCormack signed for us from Derry.
• Patrick Hoban has never scored against us, though not active Premier Division player has scored more goals against us than Patrick McEleney’s 6 goals.
• We have played 9 times on 29th March previously with 2 wins, 2 draws and 5 defeats.
• Most recently 5 years ago (2019) we lost 0-1 away at Cabinteely with future United striker Rob Manley scoring the only goal of the game.
