Galway United announce Salthill Summer Series

Galway United announce Salthill Summer Series

As confirmed at the end of last season, and recently announced by the League of Ireland Office, due to necessary pitch development works on the playing surface at Eamonn Deacy Park, Galway United will temporarily be relocating to Pearse Stadium for several home games in the League of Ireland this Summer.

This decision marks a major moment for both Galway United and Galway GAA, and reflects the growing cooperation between two great sporting organisations in the county in what will be the first time we take to the field in Salthill.

The fixtures currently scheduled to be played at Pearse Stadium are as follows:

Galway United v Derry City, Pearse Stadium - Friday 19 June, 7.45pm
Galway United v Sligo Rovers, Pearse Stadium - Saturday 11 July, 5pm
Galway United v Waterford, Pearse Stadium - Saturday 25 July, 5pm

Speaking on the move, Jonathan Corbett of Galway United said, “We're absolutely delighted to be hosting these fixtures in Pearse Stadium. While the significant upgrades to the playing surface at Eamonn Deacy Park take place, we have an opportunity to make history by playing our first games here at the home of GAA in Galway. Id like to thank everyone involved with Galway GAA who have been so supportive throughout this process. Plans are already in place to make the games an exciting spectacle for our fans and we're really looking forward to our first game here against Derry on June 19th"

This will not be our first time contesting big fixtures in Galway outside of Eamonn Deacy Park. In 1985 we were narrowly defeated by Danish side Lyngby Boldklub at the Sportsground in a UEFA Cup Winners Cup First Round clash, and returned to the same venue 10 years later for a friendly against a Manchester City side that at the time contained Ireland World Cup heroes Niall Quinn, Terry Phelan and Alan Kernaghan.

In September 1986 we were drawn to face Dutch giants FC Groningen in a UEFA Cup First Round tie which was held at Páirc an Cháthánaigh in Carraroe, and in 1991 we again qualified for the UEFA Cup Winners Cup, this time welcoming Odense Boldklub (also Denmark) in a fixture that was played at Ballinderreen GAA Club.

While the upcoming move is temporary and Eamonn Deacy Park will always be our home, it gives us scope for larger crowds and the opportunity to create a unique and brilliant atmosphere in a fantastic stadium environment which we know our fans will give us as always. Playing at Pearse Stadium will also give matchday supporters the opportunity to experience summertime in Salthill in June and July - whether it be a walk on the prom, a dip in Blackrock, a round of golf at Galway Golf Club, a visit to the amusements, an afternoon in Leisureland or some food, drink and music in one of its many fine establishments - we are excited to see the Maroon Army descend on Salthill this summer.

The Salthill Summer Series

We would like to thank our supporters for their continued backing and patience during this redevelopment period, as well as Galway GAA and local authorities for their support in helping bring the plan together. All Season Tickets are, of course, valid for the games and tickets for non-season ticket holders are now on sale at galwayunitedfc.ie. For the opening fixture against Derry City, we're delighted to be offering reduced prices of €10 general tickets and €5 for U12's

If any of our friends and local businesses in Salthill and beyond would like to discuss partnership and sponsorship opportunities for any of our fixtures in Pearse Stadium this summer, please email marketing@galwayunitedfc.ie
