Derry City

Derry City come into this contest following a 2-2 draw against Drogheda United, before the international break.

The Candystripes are managed by Tiernan Lynch, who the led the Ulster men to a second placed finish last season.

Derry have made a number of new signings this season, with Darragh Markey and former Republic of Ireland international, James McClean eye-catching additions for the Brandywell outfit.

For many, City were one of the title favourites for 2026. They currently sit in mid-table just above United, but they will be hoping that this Friday night is a turning point in their season.

The north-west side defeated the Tribesmen on both visits to Galway last season, however there is no doubt they were in better form when they came to terryland in 2025.

Michael Duffy will be a key man for City, the talented winger is currently in scintillating form.

Galway come into this game following a narrow defeat to Shamrock Rovers, at Tallaght Stadium.

United defended comfortably for the majority of the contest, however, goals from Danny Grant and Aaron Greene secured victory for Rovers.

John Caulfield's side have made a solid start to the season, where they have performed well in the majority of their fixtures to date.

The westerners made a number of new signings before the 2026 season, with Arthur Parker and Kris Twardek very impressive for the westerners so far in their debut season with Galway.

Tribesmen midfielder, Conor McCormack spent the international break away with the Republic of Ireland U19's, as assistant manager and he returned to United training on Wednesday.

Manager's thoughts

Speaking ahead of Friday's game, Galway United manager, Caulfield said that this Friday's game will be a difficult task.

"They are a very good side. They've played a lot of games at home, so playing away might actually suit them. It takes the pressure off them a bit.

"They have some brilliant players. They have signed several big stars. Their chairman came out at the start of the year and said they expect to win to league. All of our games have been tight this year. Apart from the Rovers game where they scored their second very late, all of our games have gone down to the wire."

The experienced manager also said that he hopes a large home crowd comes out to support his side.

"Hopefully with the biggest crowd of the season we can get a result. We are focused on ourselves and we are looking forward to Friday night."
