Match Preview: Galway United v Shelbourne

Galway United return to action this Friday night, when they face Shelbourne at Eamonn Deacy Park, in the SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division.

Shelbourne

Shels come into this game following a narrow 3-2 defeat against Shamrock Rovers on Monday evening, at Tallaght Stadium.

The Reds have faced Galway already this season, with the sides sharing the points in a 1-1 draw, back in February.

The Dublin outfit have been inconsistent so far this season, but they will still be a serious test for United on Friday night.

The 2024 champions have held onto the majority of their squad from last season, with Harry Wood, Paddy Barrett and Mipo Odubeko all key men for Shels.

Joey O’Brien has made a number of new signings, with Will Jarvis being an eye-catching addition. Jarvis was previously on loan at Shels, and impressed during his last spell in north Dublin.

Shelbourne had an impressive finish to the 2025 season, which saw them finish third in the league and they secured European football as a result.

Shelbourne squad: Wessel Speel, Conor Walsh, Ali Topcu, Kameron Ledwidge, Odhran Casey, Paddy Barrett, Sean Gannon, Sam Bone, James Norris, Sean Moore, Milan Mbeng, Will Jarvis, Maill Lundgren, Kerr McInroy, JJ Lunney, Jack Henry-Francis, Harry Wood, Evan Caffrey, Ellis Chapman, Daniel Kelly, Ali Coote, Rodrigo Freitas, Sean Boyd, Mipo Odubeko, John Martin.

The westerners come into this game following an enthralling 3-2 victory over Drogheda United on Monday.

United trailed 2-1 at the break, but goals in the second half from Kris Twardek and Axel Pieshold sealed the win for the tribesmen.

John Caulfield's side will be looking to making it three successive wins on the bounce, after they also defeated Derry City last Friday night.

Killian Brouder will be in line to make his 200th appearence for United on Friday night. The Limerick native has been a key part of the United defence since he joined the club in 2019.

Galway United squad: Evan Watts, Hugo Pires Da Cunha, Killian Brouder, Junior Thiam, Axel Pieshold, David Hurley, Aaron Bolger, Jimmy Keohane, Conor McCormack, Ed McCarthy, Dara McGuinness, Stephen Walsh, Cillian Tollett, James Morahan, Wasiri Williams, Kris Twardek, Lee Devitt, Matty Wolfe, Gianfranco Facchineri, Al-Amin Kazeem, Francely Lomboto, Arthur Parker, Hugo Pires Da Cunha, Nicholas Fleuriau Chateau.
