The Blues are managed by former Galway assistant manager, Jon Daly. The former Rangers player was assistant with United for the back end of last season.
Waterford have retained the majority of their squad from last season, with Conan Noonan signing on a full-time basis from Shamrock Rovers. The Kildare native and Padraig Amond are key men for the Munster side in attack.
The former Newport County striker has won the Premier Division Golden Boot award for the past two seasons.
The Munster side currently sit bottom of the Premier Division table, but their form in recent weeks has improved.
The Blues faced United already this season, with Galway winning that contest at Eammon Deacy Park, 4-3.

United come into this game following a narrow 2-1 loss against Dundalk FC.
Killian Brouder made his 200th appearance for the westerners at Oriel Park.
Prior to last week's defeat, the tribesmen had picked up back to back wins, against Derry City and Drogheda United.
Galway have made a solid start to the season, where they have performed very well in the majority of their fixtures to date.
The 2023 First Division champions currently sit 6th in the table.
If Evan Watts appears in this Friday's game, it will be the Welsh man's 30th game for the club.

Galway United manager John Caulfield has said his side are well aware of the threats that Waterford will pose on Friday night.
"They are a good side, they have good players. We know what Padraig Amond and Tommy Lonergan can do. They have brought John Mahon and Kevin Long in at the back as well, really good signings."
The former Cork City manager is hoping for a reaction from his side, following last week's loss.
"We are looking for a reaction. We picked up a few knocks last week, but we are hopeful all them lads will be available for Friday. We know how difficult it is to go to Waterford. They are always tight games between them and ourselves."
