Match Report: Galway United 2-2 Dundalk FC

Match Report: Galway United 2-2 Dundalk FC

Dundalk picked up their fourth draw of the season on Friday, following their draw with Galway United at Eamonn Deacy Park.

An away side that included three former Galway United players, Dundalk took the lead against the run of play in the 12th minute, through Gbemi Arubi. The attacker finished his header to the back of the Galway net from close-range, following a delightful cross by Daryl Horgan.

To their credit, Ciaran Kilduff’s charges didn’t sit back on their lead for the remainder of the first half, following the opening goal, but United will be disappointed with their opening half display.

The Tribesmen drew level in the 52nd minute through Stephen Walsh, when he bundled the ball into the Dundalk net.

Minutes later, the home side took the lead when, Kris Twardek headed to the back of the Dundalk net, following a corner, to give the westerners the lead.

It was evident that the home side grew in confidence after they took the lead, with the Canadian, Twardek, outstanding when he was introduced.

Despite looking the more threatening side, Caulfield’s men conceded an 82nd minute equaliser, when former Galway player, Bobby Burns scored a wonderful goal from long-range.

Dundalk could have won it late on when Harry Groome hit the post for the away side, but it ended honours even following an entertaining affair.
