Emma Doherty is back for 2025

Galway United are delighted to announce that Emma Doherty has re-signed for our Senior Women’s team ahead of the 2025 season.

The 20-year-old attacker has committed to The Tribeswomen for 2025 and heads into her second season for Galway United after joining halfway through the 2024 season.

Emma Doherty hails from Buncrana, Co. Donegal. She started playing football with local team Illies Celtic and Buncrana Hearts and then played for the Donegal League’s women’s team for two years before she signed for Sligo Rovers in 2022, making her debut in the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division that same year. Emma made her debut against DLR Waves at the Showgrounds in March and scored her first goal for the club a week later in a 2-1 win over Cork City. Emma had an instant impact at Rovers scoring 11 goals in 26 games that year and winning the SSE/LOI Player of the month for June/July for her amazing form. Doherty’s efforts also saw her earn a play in the league’s Team of the Year at the time. Emma has since kept that form up and has played 50+ games for Sligo Rovers since, scoring just under 30 goals in that time, a very impressive record indeed.

It was then in the summer of 2024 when Emma joined the Tribeswomen. Doherty featured in 17 league games combined for Sligo Rovers and Galway United and netted on four occaasions. Including in three successive games for United when she scored against Peamount United, Sligo Rovers and Treaty United. She has huge potential to push on even further in 2025 and we’re looking forward to seeing her in action!
