Galway United return to Eammon Deacy Park on Friday night for the first time since May 22nd, when they face Drogheda United, in the SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division.

The two sides already faced each other in Galway on the opening day of the season, with Kevin Doherty’s charges winning that contest, 1-0.

‍Drogheda United

Drogheda come into this game following a 0-0 draw against Shamrock Rovers on Friday night.

The Louth side had an impressive 2025 Premier Division campaign, which almost saw Doherty’s charges claim European football, however this season they have not performed as impressively.

They currently sit in 8th position, two points behind Galway, and with an extra game played.

With the likes of former Galway goalkeeper, Luke Dennison in goals and Conor Keeley in defence, Drogheda are difficult to break down, and they will always look dangerous from Shane Farrell’s set pieces.

Drogs are currently winless in their last two league games.

Galway come into this game following an entertaining 1-1 draw with Bohs, on Sunday night.

An Aaron Bolger screamer earned a point for John Caulfield's side.

Caulfield's charges have had a solid season so far, and currently sit in 7th spot in the league.

The westerners will be encouraged by recent performances of goalkeeper, Hugo da Cunha who has replaced Evan Watts between the sticks. The Welsh man was recalled from his loan by his parent club, Swansea City.

Dara McGuinness and Axel Pieshold will not be part of Friday's matchday squad due to injury.

Manager's thoughts

Speaking ahead of Friday's return to Terryland, Caulfield said he was looking forward to his side's return to the home of Galway football.

"It's our first game back in Terryland in three months, at a vital stage of the season. We're appealing for United fans to get into the ground early and back the lads. The playing surface will be fantastic and it is great for us to get back," said Caulfield.

The gaffer also said he is expecting a tough challenge from Drogheda.

"We know Drogheda well, Kevin has done a great job over the last several years."
