Galway United return to action this Saturday, when they face Sligo Rovers in the Connacht Derby at Pearse Stadium.
Sligo Rovers come into this Connacht Derby following a 2-1 loss against Shamrock Rovers last Friday. The result saw them go to bottom place in the league table.
The Bit O’Red finished the 2025 season in good form, which saw them maintain their Premier Division status for 2026.
Russell made a number of signings ahead of the 2026 season, with former United defender Jeannot Esua making the move to Sligo. James McManus has also re-joined the club on loan from Bohs.
One of Sligo’s star players from last season, Owen Elding, has left the club to join Hibernian in Scotland, however Jad Hakiki is still with the North-West club.
The last time the two sides faced each other, Galway defeated Sligo, 4-1.

United come into Saturday’s derby following a 3-0 defeat against St Patrick's Athletic, last Friday.
The Tribesmen currently sit in 7th position, in the Premier Division table.
United have lost Evan watts and Arthur Parker in recent times, as they returned to their parent club, Swansea City.
Connor Gleeson has come into replace Watts in the squad, and could make his first start under John Caulfield this weekend.
