Galway United return to action this Friday night, when they face Shelbourne at Tolka Park.

Shels come into this game following a 0-0 draw against Derry on Monday night.

The 2024 league champions have held onto the majority of their squad from last season, with Harry Wood, Paddy Barrett and Mipo Odubeko all key men for Shels.

Joey O’Brien made a number of new signings ahead of the 2026 season, with Will Jarvis being an eye-catching addition. Jarvis was previously on loan at Shels, and impressed during his last spell in north Dublin.

Shelbourne had an impressive finish to the 2025 season, which saw them finish third in the league and they secured European football as a result.

However, the north Dublin side have only won one of their nine home games so far this season.

Galway come into this game following a 4-2 defeat against Bohs last Friday.

United have already faced Shels this season at Tolka Park, with the game finishing 1-1.

The westerners currently sit 7th in the league table.

In United's last away game they were 4-2 victors over Sligo Rovers.

Conor McCormack and Frantz Pierrot are doubts for United due to knocks sustained last week, while Dara McGuinness remains out with an injury.

Manager's thoughts

Speaking ahead of the game against Shelbourne, Caulfield said he was looking forward to the contest.

"We're looking forward to the game, we know Shelbourne are a very good side. Conor McCormack and Frantz Pierrot picked up knocks last week but apart from that we're all good to go. We were disappointed to concede late last week, and we are looking to rectify that in Dublin."

The Roscommon native is confident his side can get a result

"In our last away game we had a good win. We will be looking for the same on Friday. We are confident but we know how good Shels are."
