Three second half goals from substitute, Colm Whelan, Ross Tierney and Dawson Devoy earned Bohs all three points away from home on Friday night against Galway United.

Goals either side of half-time from Stephen Walsh and Kris Twardek saw the Tribesmen race into a two-goal lead, as Bohs' chances of claiming their first league title since 2009, appeared to have evaporated.

Both these teams came into this contest in decent form, with both qualifying for the last four of the Men's FAI Cup after narrow and dramatic victories the previous week.

This clash was a physical affair, with both sides not afraid to play direct.

The opening exchanges of the game were uneventful, but there is no doubt the visitors dominated possession and territory in the first quarter.

This result sees Bohs only three points off league leaders, Shamrock Rovers.

Against the run of play, the hosts hit the front after a spectacular acrobatic strike from Walsh in the 31^st minute. Following a cross from Al-Amin Kazeem, the attacker found the net with an outstanding bicycle kick.

The Dubliners first real chance of the game came almost five minutes later, but Darragh Power saw his shot just miss the target, after a Harry Vaughan cross.

Conor Parsons was lively for the Gypsies in Terryland, but other key players did not perform for the first three quarters of the game.

Parsons had numerous attempts at goal in both halves, but on numerous occasions he narrowly missed the target.

Despite bossing possession for large spells, the Dalymount men struggled to pierce through the United defence for the first 65 minutes.

Eight minutes into the second period, and disaster struck for Bohs.

Former Galway player, Patrick Hickey had a mix up with his goalkeeper, Paul Girard Walters, and Hickey's header fell to former Bohs man, Twardek who finished to an empty net, to double the hosts' advantage.

Interestingly, both of Bohs' centre halves on Friday were ex-Galway players, yet neither were used regularly at the back, during their time west of the Shannon.  

This game may have indicated why John Caulfield used neither player frequently in defence.

The final 20 minutes of the game would turn out to be chaos, as the visitors somehow grabbed three goals.

With just over a quarter of an hour remaining, they pulled a goal back. Substitute, Colm Whelan picked up the ball just outside the penalty area, and the Kilkenny native fired a right footed effort past Hugo da Cunha, to give the travelling support hope.

Seven minutes later they levelled matters. After some scrappy play, Ross Tierney picked up the ball inside the box and he slotted the ball home, to the joy of the away dugout.

Then in the 91^st minute, they incredibly took the lead, after Devoy weaved his way through the United defence, and his shot squirmed through da Cunha.
