Match Report: Galway United 2-4 Bohs

Match Report: Galway United 2-4 Bohs

Goals from Dawson Devoy, Douglas James-Taylor, Ross Tierney and Patrick Hickey sealed a vital three points on the road for Bohs as they defeated Galway United at Eamonn Deacy Park.

Alan Reynolds and his side were under pressure a few weeks ago, after their impressive start to the season evaporated, but following this victory in Terryland, the Dalymount men have now won three games on the spin.

And while Bohs tested the patience of their followers against Galway at times in the second half, they delivered the goods to pick up all three points.

In this physical affair out west, the away side started brightly. Moments into the contest, Dayle Rooney’s effort from close range went wide, after Evan Watts failed to claim a delivery into the Galway penalty box

To their credit, Galway grew into the contest as the half went on and they created a number of chances in the opening 20 minutes.

It was Bohs, however, that took the lead in the 25th minute. Devoy – who has been called up for the upcoming Republic of Ireland international against Canada – picked up possession 25 yards out from goal and he fired an effort past Watts, to give the north Dublin side the lead.

Five minutes later, James-Taylor doubled their advantage. Devoy drove at the heart of the Galway defence, before he laid the ball off to the former Walsall player, and he finished neatly from close range.

The Terryland outfit started the second period on the front foot, and they got a goal back in the 61st minute, when Ed McCarthy headed home following a Kris Twardek cross.

The visitors looked to have finished the game as a contest in the 74th minute, when Connor Parsons went down the left flank and he pulled the ball back to Tierney who finished into an empty net.

McCarthy responded immediately though for the 2023 First Division champions, when he fired an effort to the back of the Bohs net from 30 yards.

To conclude six minutes of madness, former United player, Hickey finished a fine header past Watts seconds later, to restore Bohs’ two-goal cushion.

United pushed for another goal late on, but Bohs held on for a deserved three points.

Galway travel to Tolka Park to face Shelbourne next Friday, while resurgent Bohs face Shamrock Rovers next Monday in the Dublin derby.
