Galway United FC is inviting applications for the role of Volunteer Disability Access Officer.

This is a meaningful opportunity to help make a positive difference for supporters with disabilities and to play an important part in creating a more inclusive and welcoming matchday experience. The successful volunteer will help the club listen, improve and build stronger connections with disabled supporters, their families, carers and local organisations.

The role

The Volunteer Disability Access Officer will be a key contact for disability access and inclusion matters at Galway United FC. The role is centred on improving the supporter experience and helping ensure disabled supporters feel welcome, informed, respected and fully included in club life.

Working closely with the Club Secretary and relevant club personnel, the role holder will support practical improvements across supporter communications, accessibility information, matchday planning and engagement with the wider community. The role will also help the club better understand the experiences of disabled supporters and identify ways to remove barriers over time.

Main responsibilities

• Be a welcoming and approachable point of contact for disabled supporters and their families, carers and representative groups.

• Help the club improve the matchday experience for supporters with disabilities at Eamonn Deacy Park.

• Support the development of clear and accessible information for supporters attending matches, including details on stadium access, relevant facilities and useful pre-match guidance.

• Work with club staff and volunteers to promote awareness, inclusion and good practice across the club.

• Liaise with local disability organisations and community groups to strengthen relationships and encourage inclusive engagement with the club.

• Gather supporter feedback and help turn it into practical, realistic improvements.

• Assist with the communication of accessibility information through the club website and other relevant channels.

• Support matchday planning and coordination in relation to accessibility where appropriate.

• Attend relevant meetings, training opportunities and League of Ireland Disability Access Officer network activity connected to the role.

Applicants should have:

• A genuine commitment to inclusion and accessibility.

• Strong communication and people skills.

• The ability to work positively with supporters, volunteers, staff and external organisations.

• Good organisation and reliability.

• Empathy, initiative and a practical approach to problem-solving.

• Flexibility to support evening and weekend activity, particularly around matchdays.

Previous experience in accessibility, community engagement, supporter liaison, customer service or volunteering would be beneficial, but a positive attitude and a willingness to learn are just as important.
