Galway native Aoibheann was a brilliant asset for United in her first season with the side in 2023, playing 15 times across the league and the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup. A marauding full-back, Costello has a brilliant athletic and technical ability to get up and down the touchline over 90 minutes. Aoibheann played with Cregmore Claregalway FC as a youth, even scoring in Eamonn Deacy Park as a 13 year old in the U14 FAI Cup Final. She has come a long way since, donning the maroon of Galway United and playing across the country on a weekly basis.
Costello signed with Galway WFC originally starting her senior career and then made the move to the newly formed Galway United women’s side. Costello was certainly an outlier amongst the league’s defenders, as she proved her worth in 2023 as a hard working full back helping United win the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup. Earning her spot as one of the best pressing machines in the division. She ranked number one in the country in 2023 for counter presses per 90 and second for overall recoveries per 90, averaging 13.5 recoveries per game.
