Last time out for United

Last time out United had a narrow 1-0 loss to St. Patrick’s Athletic. Jamie Lennon scored just moments into the match, but neither side created any major chances for the rest of the game. You can check out highlights of the game below on our YouTube:

We’re looking forward to going to Oriel Park. Stephen O’Donnell has built a very good team, very quickly. We know how difficult Dundalk can be, but we’re looking to build on last week’s performance.

Getting to Oriel Park

We would recommend driving or getting a lift to Dundalk over taking public transport.

Driving: The drive is roughly 3hrs, take the M6 east and then once you reach Tyrellspass, just past Tullamore, turn off and go north onto the N52. Roughly 3pm is a reasonable time to leave for Dundalk, allowing for traffic and stops along the way.

Bus: You can get the 1:15pm or 2:30pm CityLink bus to Dublin Airport. Which arrive at 3:45pm and 5pm. There is a Bus Eireann route which leaves Dublin Airport at 5:20pm which will get you to Dundalk for roughly 6:30pm.

Train: The train takes 5hrs, leaving Ceannt Station at 1pm, arriving into Dublin at 3:45pm. You can then make your way across to Connolly Station on the LUAS, to make the 4:26pm train to Belfast and hop off at Dundalk. Which would get you there for 5:48pm. Although the times are quite close, we wouldn’t recommend this route. You could alternatively get the train to Dublin, then the bus from the airport at 5:20pm up to Dundalk.

Getting back to Galway

There are very limited public transport options back to Galway after the game. We would recommend driving or getting a lift.

The Opposition

Dundalk last season finished 5th in the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division. Their last game was a tense 1-1 draw with Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght Stadium.

Key player – Daryl Horgan

Daryl is brother of Galway United defender Colm Horgan. They’ve faced off many a time, whether it’s in their back garden in Galway or on a professional level on a full sized pitch. Daryl is a very exciting player, who usually plays as a winger or as a ten on occasion. He has a brilliant technical ability, excelling in one v one situations.

One To Watch – Jamie Gullan

Jamie Gullan is a recent arrival to Oriel Park, and scored on his debut in the league for the Lilywhites. The scotsman plays as a striker and has a brilliant finishing ability along with being deadly from set pieces. As he proved last week, Gullan scored a brilliant free-kick.
