Mary-Kate Tyrrell signs for Galway United Senior Women’s squad
Galway United are thrilled to share that Mayo native, Mary-Kate Tyrrell has signed for Galway United. The midfielder joins Phil Trill’s side for the 2024 season following an impressive trial period and also playing against United for the TG4 TV Series Underdogs.
Mary-Kate played with her local side Castlebar Town most recently, where the central midfielder stood out in the Mayo Women’s league. Earning a place in the league Team of the Year in 2022. Tyrrell continued her form into the 2023 season, getting a goal and assist in the opening game of the season. As a stand out player in the division Mary-Kate was then picked for the TG4 TV Series Underdogs. A show where the best of former women’s professionals and amatuer players from around the country trained for multiple weeks, with the end goal of beating a League of Ireland side, as Underdogs.
As pictured on the right of the back row, Mary-Kate Tyrrell and co. faced Galway United in Eamonn Deacy Park. United won the game, but there were some very impressive performances from the players, including Tyrrell herself. She had a great game in midfield against the likes of Jenna Slattery and Lynsey McKey, who she can now call her teammates. Mary-Kate herself spoke to us at her unveiling at Eamonn Deacy Park, saying “I can’t wait to get started here, it’s a fantastic squad and a great club so really looking forward to getting going”
