Amanda Smith is back for 2025
Galway United are delighted to announce that Amanda Smith has re-signed for our Senior Women’s team ahead of the 2025 season.
The Canadian attacker has committed to The Tribeswomen for 2025 and heads into her second year for Galway United after joining during the 2024 season.
Joining Galway United in May 2024, Amanda hails from Ottawa and was a student at Francis Xavier University (StFX) in Antigonish. Smith joined after some very impressive performances at University level with her college football team called “X”. Here she won a multitude of awards, including the Most Valued Player in 2019/20 when she was beginning her career with the side and pushed on a lot since, in her fifth year with the side in 2023 she kept that form up. Making the All-Star team for the third time last year and winning multiple Player of the Week awards in September and October 23′. Scoring three goals in two games to open the season for “X’ she started in great form.
Amanda then made the move across the Atlantic in May 2024 to sign for Galway United mid-season. Pictured below is the United side that took on Athlone Town in the All-Island Cup in May 2024. Amanda Smith made her first start this game, and is pictured second from the right in the back row. Smith featured in ten games in the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division, scoring twice as she settled into the league. She played a key role in 2024, and is now set for her first full year in maroon.
