Aoibhín Donnelly signs for Galway United

FÁILTE AOIBHÍN DONELLY 👋

Tá lúcháir ar Gaillimh Aontaithe a fhógairt go bhfuil Aoibheann Donnelly ag síniú d’fhoireann sinsir na mban.

Galway United are delighted to announce the signing of 23-year-old midfielder Aobhín Donnelly following her release from Cork City.

The former Galway WFC winger links up with manager Phil Trill for a second time, on this occasion with Galway United.

A RETURN TO GALWAY 🇱🇻

Clare native, Aoibhín Donnelly, started playing locally having a successful grassroots career, winning titles with Ennis Town at underage level, earning a move to Galway WFC in 2018 joining up with the U17s side, before making a spot in the U19s side where she played with many of the current Galway United Senior Women’s players.

No photo description available.Donnelly won a league and cup double at U17 and U19 level, under a side managed by Phil Trill at Eamonn Deacy Park. So it is quite familiar grounds for Donnelly to be returning to, now under Trill’s management at Galway United.

“Yeah so luckily we had great success underage, we won a double U17s and a double U19s. So it’s good that I know some of the girls who I would have played with are still here so they’ve really helped me to settle in quickly and as well just playing under Phil for those years as well, I think he knows me as a player and more importantly he knows me as a person.

In 2022, Aoibhín joined the Rebels at Cork City. She made her senior debut for them against her old club Galway WFC in the 2022 league opener. Donnelly went on to make 59 appearances for City over three seasons before leaving the club to join Galway United in July 2025.

I really enjoyed my time down in Cork City, I was studying there the past four years and playing with them and it was good. We had a different change of few different managers and stuff like that so kind of got used to playing in a few different systems and through different styles but yeah I‘ve nothing but good things to say about the club

WHAT TO EXPECT 🔥

Aoibhín is a versatile, technical and hard working midfielder. She can play centrally and out wide, Aoibhín herself highlighted this at her signing announcement at Eamonn Deacy Park earlier today.

I think I’m more of an attacking player, I like to drive forward with the ball, I like to dribble with the ball sometimes probably more than I should but as well I think I’m an aggressive player as well I like a strong tackle, so yeah that’s kind of what you can expect from me

Galway United can confirm the departures of Jodie Griffin, Rachel Kearns and Shauna Fox from the club. We would like to thank the players for their efforts while with the club and wish them the best of luck going forward.
