PREVIEW | Bray Wanderers

Galway United take on Bray Wanderers at Eamonn Deacy Park on Friday night. Kick-off: 7.45pm.

Ten man Bray found a way past promotion rivals Limerick last week at the Carlisle Grounds. Former United defender Kilian Cantwell was dismissed early in the second half for the Wanderers, but Paul Keegan’s strike on the stroke of half time was enough for the home side to claim the three points.

United will be disappointed with a failure to pick up the full compliment when they faced Wexford at Ferrycarrig Park last week. The Tribesmen were not clinical enough in front of goal when two guilt edged chances presented themselves in the closing stages of a tight game.

Both league games between United and Bray Wanderers were decided by a one goal margin this season. Waterford loanee Dean O’Halloran scored the winner in the first meeting of the sides at Eamonn Deacy Park in a game of little chances. A tired looking United side let a one goal lead slip in a midweek trip to the Carlisle Grounds to allow the home side to come from behind and win late in the game.

United will be targeting a reversal of results when Gary Cronin’s side visit Eamonn Deacy Park on Friday night.

MURPHY LOOKING FOR MORE OF A CLINICAL EDGE WHEN BRAY WANDERERS VISIT EAMONN DEACY PARK
“We acquitted ourselves well against Bray in both of our previous meetings against them this season,” Murphy explained to www.galwayunitedfc.ie.

“At the Carlisle Grounds, we should’ve beaten them, but a poor 10 minutes spell towards the end of the game cost us.

“We’ll be confident heading into the game. We know that if we can perform on the night, we’ll do well.

“We have a lot of players back now and there will be a lot of competition for places in the squad. It’s very much about how we perform on the night and being right ourselves.

“I thought we had the better of the chances down in Wexford last week, but we didn’t convert them on the day.

“Perhaps the chances fell to players that were a little bit low on confidence or just returning to the team.

“The positive was that we created those chances and now we have to work on being more clinical and converting them when we create them against Bray.”

TEAM NEWS
Conor Barry (hamstring) and Jack Lynch (quad) are United’s only absentees for the Bray Wanderers game.

Outside of that, Alan Murphy has a full squad to choose from.
