GALWAY UNITED ACADEMY MANAGER (Full-Time)

Galway United FC compete in both the senior Men & Women SSE Airtricity Premier Division of the
League of Ireland along with teams across several age groups in the EA Sports League of Ireland
Academy.

As part of the clubs continuing growth & development, we now wish to appoint our first full-time
Academy Manager to oversee all academy underage structures and player development.
The Academy Manager will be responsible for the management & development of the Club’s Academy,
Programs and Staff and provide leadership across the key areas of: Player Development, Coaching,
Recruitment and Operations.

The position will require excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills. The
successful candidate will have the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders who are important
to the development of young players and position the Academy as a route into the First Team.
A background in youth development in football is critical, including a combination of the right
qualifications, experience and achievements.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Drive the vision of the Academy through an excellent standard of coaching, strategic
    planning, operational management and good leadership of people.
  • Have a clear passion for the long-term development of talented players, creating a pathway
    into the first team.
  • Deliver a culture of elite performance within the Academy.
  • Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that measure and track return on investment and
    value for money in the academy.
  • Oversee the development of strong relationships with other football clubs and organisations,
    locally and nationally.
  • Implementation best-in-class programmes and structures to oversee the Academy individual
    development plans and to ensure that players are supported to their fullest potential.
  • Understand and implement the club’s safeguarding policy, procedures and best practice
    guidelines.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • UEFA Elite Youth A licence or a commitment to the completion of UEFA Elite Youth A Licence
    within 12 months of appointment.
  • Proven track record of developing players from academy through to senior level.
  • Flexible approach to meet the nature and demands of the business.
  • Proven “hands-on” operational and budget management experience.
  • Experience in academy player movement, the transfers of academy players to other clubs and an understanding of the market and compensation agreements.
