Galway United is delighted to announce that Greg Cunningham, Jimmy Keohane, Garry Buckley, and Bobby Burns have re-signed for the Senior Men’s team ahead of the 2025 season.
The quartet have committed to The Tribesmen for 2025 and head into the new season off the back of Galway United’s highest-ever league finish in thirty years.
Former Ireland international Greg Cunningham returned to Galway in 2024 after a successful career in a in England, including playing in the Premier League and the Championship.
Greg began his journey in football in Galway as a teenager with Cregmore and Mervue United before moving to Manchester City at just 16 years of age, here he would make his Premier League and Europa League debut before his career would take his career on spells to Leicester City (loan) Nottingham Forest (loan), Bristol City, Preston North End, Cardiff, Blackburn Rovers (loan) and a back to Preston North End which was his last club before his Galway return.
Since returning to Terryland in July, Greg has showed his experience and became a crucial part of Galway United’s defense which only conceded 29 goals in League matches and like many places in his career he quickly became adored by the fanbase.
2025 will also be the first full season at the club for Kilkenny man, Jimmy Keohane, who joined United halfway through the 2024 campaign in July, joining from Rochdale, where he enjoyed a successful time, winning the clubs Player Of The Year award in 2020/21.
Keohane has made a strong impression since arriving in Terryland, playing seventeen times in all competitions and scoring four goals along the way. Keohane won the clubs Player of the Month award for October and was nominated for the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month for September, no doubt thanks to his incredible strike in a 2-1 victory against Shelbourne.
Congrats to Jimmy Keohane who has been nominated for the SSE Airtricity / @SoccerWritersIr Player of the Month 🤩
