Aaron Bolger signs for Galway United
FÁILTE AARON BOLGER 👋
Tá lúcháir ar Gaillimh Aontaithe a fhógairt go bhfuil Aaron Bolger ag síniú d’fhoireann sinsireach na bhfear.
Galway United is delighted to announce the signing of 25-year-old midfielder Aaron Bolger from St Patrick’s Athletic.
The former Cardiff City and Shamrock Rovers player links up with John Caulfield’s side with a wealth of Premier Division experience under his belt.
Aaron arrives at Eamonn Deacy Park with an impressive CV, with over eighty Premier Division appearances and featuring in UEFA competition, beginning with making his debut for Shamrock Rovers at just sixteen back in 2016.
FROM WICKLOW TO GALWAY 🇮🇪
Originally hailing from Avoca, Co Wicklow, Aaron came through the prestigious ranks at St Joseph’s Boys before moving to the Shamrock Rovers academy in 2016. Making his debut at just 16-years-old, Aaron made a strong impression with the senior side across three seasons before departing for the English Premier League, joining Cardiff City in 2019.
“It was a really good experience over in Cardiff, I actually met Greg there and we got to know each other really well, we roomed together on pre-season and stuff. I came back home and signed for Cork City, had a really good time there and then went to St. Pat’s and now I’m here at Galway”

Aaron also earned a spot in the Ireland underage setup and gained invaluable experience during his time at the Millennium Stadium and enjoyed loan spells in Ireland with Shamrock Rovers and Longford Town, but departed in 2021 in search of guaranteed first-team football.
A hugely successful spell with Cork City followed. Aaron arrived at the First Division side midway through the 2021 season and immediately became indispensable for the side. The following season, the Rebels sealed promotion with Bolger at the heart of the midfield – with the midfielder making 31 appearances and earning a spot in the PFAI First Division Team of the Season.
Bolger remained an integral part of the Cork City side on their return to the Premier Division, once again making 31 appearances as the side narrowly suffered relegation in the play-off final. However, an impressive individual season caught the eye of St Patrick’s Athletic and he arrived in Inchicore in December 2023.

During his time in Dublin, Bolger made 17 Premier Division appearances in 2024 before joining Ebbsfleet United on loan during the first half of the 2025 season for guaranteed minutes. When United came calling Aaron had no hesitation in joining after hearing about the interest:
“I was actually on holidays with my girlfriend, I got a phone call and asked would I be interested in coming to Galway and it was a no brainer. I did everything I could to try and make the deal happen”

ARRIVING IN GALWAY 🇱🇻
Aaron has arrived in Galway at a promising time with the club on the rise in recent years. Aaron himself highlighted this at his signing announcement at Eamonn Deacy Park earlier today.
“I’m over the moon, when Ollie and John got in contact. It was a no brainer, just looking from the outside at what they’ve done and where the club is it’s unbelievable and something I’m looking forward to being a part of. When you’re on the outside it’s a tough and intimidating place to come, I’m looking forward to meeting all the lads and get started.”

WHAT TO EXPECT 🔥
Aaron is a hard working central midfielder, who excels both defensive and offensively. He’s hard working as he described in his own words below:
“I give 100%. I’m really honest and I give 100% every time I step on the pitch. I’m tenacious and wear my heart on my sleeve and want to win games. I’m a tidy footballer on the ball too and want to make things happen”
