Brendan Clarke Wins 2024 Galway United Men’s Player of the Year Award
Galway United are thrilled to announce that Brendan Clarke has been named Galway United’s Men’s Player of the Year for 2024.
In a special moment at the Galway United Co-Op Q&A event held tonight at the Connacht Hotel, Manager John Caulfield presented Clarke with the prestigious award, organized by the Co-Op and sponsored by O’Brien’s Newsagents. Brendan’s outstanding contributions this season have solidified his role as a crucial player for United.
In addition to this recognition, Clarke earned a spot in the 2024 PFAI Team of the Year. He had an exceptional season in goal, recording 16 clean sheets—the joint-highest in the league alongside Shelbourne, the league champions. Clarke’s unwavering presence in goal saw him play every minute across 36 league games, and his leadership anchored United’s backline, which conceded only 29 goals, the second-fewest in the league.
At 39, Clarke continues to defy expectations and has once again proven himself among the country’s elite keepers. We’re thrilled to confirm his return for the 2025 season, and Clarke is equally excited to continue his journey with United. He shared his thoughts at the Q&A event:
“It was a really enjoyable season, a great group to work with on and off the pitch. Everyone’s ready to go to war for each other, and it’s been a successful season in the end.”
“I’m delighted to be coming back. John approached me last week to check where I was at. I’ve got a son starting first year next year, so we had some discussions, but once everything was clear, it was just a matter of sorting things with John. I’m absolutely delighted and already looking forward to next season.”
This award and his return are a testament to Brendan Clarke’s continued dedication and exceptional performance.
