Dunne backs Glynn appointment
Galway United announced the appointment of Johnny Glynn as the clubs U19 manager on Sunday afternoon. First team manager Tommy Dunne backed the appointment of the former Mervue United manager and stressed the importance of United developing its own players in the years to come at Eamonn Deacy Park.
“It’s a hugely important appointment for the club,” Dunne told www.galwayunitedfc.ie.
“From my point of view, Johnny is an excellent addition to the club. I’m glad someone of his experience, who is greatly respected both in Galway and throughout the league, has joined the club and wanted the role as much as he did.
“We’ve already got a good working relationship and I think we’ll continue to work well together to try and produce good young players, who can progress into the first team setup at Galway United.
“The importance of bringing young players through at Galway United cannot be understated. We’re not a club that’s going to be going out and paying massive wages. We have to produce our own players and I think Johnny’s experience with Mervue United in that regard will be crucial.
“He’s brought through a lot of our current squad and some well-known Galway lads plying their trade elsewhere in the league and further afield.”
