16-year-old Emma Duffy joins Galway United Senior Women’s squad
Fáilte Emma Duffy!
Galway United are delighted to announce that 16-year-old Emma Duffy has been officially called up to our Senior Womens squad for the 2024 season. Mayo native, Emma Duffy has made the step up from the academy ahead of the 2024 season. Before joining United, Emma played for the Sligo Rovers U17 team for nine months in 2022. The following January, she joined Galway United at U19s level before making the step up to the seniors. Last year she made six appearances in the league for United.
Emma Duffy is a very talented and versatile player who excels in midfield. Emma made her debut against league champions Peamount United halfway through last season at just fifteen years of age coming on as a second half sub. She played well in that half and earned another appearance in the next game, against Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght Stadium, no less. Within moments of her debut against Peamount she was contesting for the ball with League of Ireland stalwart Karen Duggan putting herself about in midfield. In the build up to Gemma McGuinness’ goal against Rovers, Duffy lost the ball and worked hard to get it back from former Ireland international Aine O’Gorman. Duffy is not afraid to play at this level, even with some players twice her age. Internationally, Emma has represented the Republic of Ireland at U17 level on multiple occasions, with appearances in competitive games against the likes of Norway, Poland and Albania.
