The Stats with Julian Canny
It will be the fifth meeting between Galway United and Cork City. United have a 100% record winning home and away against Cork City in the league for the past two seasons.
Last season’s home match was played in the venue for the weekend, Moyne Villa, and United came out on top 5-0 with Julie-Ann Russell scoring the first and, to date, only hat-trick for the club.
United are now unbeaten in thirteen All-Island Cup matches, though have won seven and drawn six in 90 minutes. A draw against Cork will guarantee qualification to the quarter finals of the tournament for the third time in succession.
In the last All-Island Cup game, Kate Thompson made her 50th appearance for the club, she also celebrates her 20th birthday on Friday.

Key Players to Watch

🇨🇦 Galway United – Amanda Smith
Our latest goalscorer Amanda Smith has been in stellar form this season. Fresh off scoring an equaliser against Peamount United in our last All-Island Cup game, Smith is definitely one to keep an eye on in Headford. Smith since signing in the summer of 2024 from Canada has impacted the team greatly. Her creativity and ability to take on players centrally to carve out opportunities has been a huge part of United’s attack this season. Smith has featured in every game this year and contributed with three goals, definitely one to watch on Saturday.
🔴 Cork City – Christina Dring

Christina Dring has been an ever present for Cork City through the years since joining initially in 2017. The Cork native, and City’s number nine is their top scorer in the league this season. With three goals to her name in the league and another to her tally in the All-Island Cup in her last game against Cliftonville, Dring has certainly been in good form for the Rebels.

Last time out
Peamount United 1 – 1 Galway United
In our last game in the All-Island Cup United earned a draw away to Peamount in Greenogue. United started the game on the front foot, with a flurry of chances in the opening few minutes, including an effort off the post from Emma Doherty. As the game settled down, Peamount controlled possession for long periods as former Galway WFC player Sadhbh Doyle opening the scoring at the half an hour mark. United grew back into the game as the first half progressed, playing through the lines of the Pea’s very high press. United went into the break one down, with a big second half performance needed to keep the All-Island Cup dream going.
United carried that momentum into the second half, scoring after just ten minutes. A quickly taken corner was headed in by Smith in the 50th minute as United earned their reward for substantial pressure on the Pea’s backline. United continued to create chance after chance, with Amanda Budden forced into several key saves, and efforts of both the post and crossbar. The game finished level, with one a piece but United’s performance was very positive.
