Team News 🗞️

John Caulfield spoke to Keith Kelly at the Galway Tribune earlier this week and gave the below overview of the squad going into Friday’s game. You can read their full piece here.

“We got the two lads (Bolger and Piesold) in and we’re trying to get maybe another player in because we need to get stronger and certainly, you know, with Conor McCormack out for another week and Patrick Hickey being out, and we’ve missed them,”

“Every game is a dog of a game and Bohs are flying. They have a chance of winning the league and they signed the goalscorer from Drogheda last week.

The Stats with Julian Canny 📊

It will be the 94th meeting of the clubs. We’ve won 21 with 23 draws and 49 wins for Bohs

At Premier Division level we’ve faced them 71 times previously with 17 wins, 17 draws and 37 defeats.

Away from home we only have 8 wins from 45 matches with 12 draws and 25 defeats, though we are currently six matches unbeaten away from home dating back to 2016, since our promotion last season we have taken 7 points from the three matches there, earlier this season winning 2-0.

Our biggest away win came in December 1999 when Kieran Foley, acting as a makeshift striker, scored a hat-trick.

Player milestones for the match:

Stephen Walsh continues to close in on Kevin Cassidy’s all-time appearance record. Drogheda was his 356th game for the club so he’s only 12 behind.

Killian Brouder is in line for his 175th club appearance

Rob Slevin could be making his 90th appearance.

SATURDAY – SLIGO ROVERS (H) 🔴

Phil Trill’s side come into this game following a 3-1 win over Shamrock Rovers in the All-Island Cup Semi-Final, while Sligo Rovers come into this game following a 2-3 loss against DLR Waves in the first round of the FAI Cup.

You can purchase your tickets HERE.

Speaking ahead of the game, United manager, Trill, said he is expecting a tough game this weekend.
“Yeah it’s a Connacht Derby. The games have been quite tense and tight, we’re looking forward to having them down at Eamonn Deacy Park, it’s going to be a battle.”

The Stats with Julian Canny 📊

We have a 100% record with 6 wins from 6 against Sligo Rovers.

Just two of those meetings have been at home, both in the league and both resulted in 2-1 wins.
In 2023 Kate Thompson and Jenna Slattery were our scorers, while last season it was Amanda Smith and Emma Doherty, scoring against her former club with the goals.
