It will be the 82nd meeting between the clubs with a record of 20 wins for United, 20 draws and 41 wins for Shels.
At the top level we have played 56 times with a record of 11-16-29. The Premier Division record since 1985 is 8-10-22 from 40 meetings.
Our home record against Shels from 41 matches is 12 wins, 8 draws and 21 defeats.
Our record win over Shels came in the 1985/86 season when we beat them 6-1 in Galway on 15th December 1985. Colm McGonigle and Paul McGee scored a brace each with Denis Bonner also on the scoresheet.
We have won our last three home meetings with Shels, a couple of 1-0s last year, Ed McCarthy with the goal in the April meeting and Jimmy Keohane in September.

In 1991 we beat Derry 2-1 at home, Noel Mernagh and Stephen Lally with the goals.
Finally 40 years ago to the day (1985), we lost 1-3 in Tolka Park to the then tenants, Home Farm. John Mannion had equalised for us in the second half.

🐐 Galway United – Stephen Walsh
Who else could be the one to watch for this game but Mr. Galway United himself, Stephen Walsh. The Galwegian is in line to equal the all-time appearance record this Monday night. With 292 league appearances for the Tribesmen. Our top scorer in 2024 is certainly one to keep an eye on as he looks to open his account this season.

🔴 Shelbourne – Sean Boyd
Leading the line for Shels is Sean Boyd. The former Rovers, Harps and Longford striker currently sits in second place in the top scorer charts in 2025. Boyd scored ten goals and recorded five assists last season in the league winning campaign. He’s certainly an exciting player who can cause problems, and is one to watch for Shelbourne on Monday. 📆 Last time out
Drogheda United 1 – 1 Galway United
United continued their unbeaten start to the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division, following a draw Drogheda United on Friday night at Sullivan and Lambe Park.
In a physical affair it was the hosts that started the brighter, with Warren Davis and Shane Farrell causing United trouble early on.
Despite the early Drogheda pressure, the Tribesmen defended well with the hosts creating no clear cut opportunity in the first 15 minutes.

The visitors grew into the game after this and almost opened the scoring in the 20th minute, following a fine strike by Bobby Burns from the left flank, that just went wide.
Moments later, Patrick Hickey saw his long-range effort expertly saved by Luke Dennison in the Drogheda goal.
The hosts responded well however, and almost opened the scoring themselves in the 26th minute, when Ryan Brennan saw his looping shot just go over Brendan Clarke’s crossbar, from 25 yards out. Davis was the next to go clse for the FAI Cup champions in the 35th minute. Davis dispossed United’s Greg Cunningham deep in the away side’s half, but Davis fired his effort wide from the edge of the box. Drogheda opened the scoring in the 40th minute following a Ryan Brennan header from close range, giving Kevin Doherty’s side a 1-0 lead at the break.

United made a double substitution at the break with Vincent Borden and Cian Byrne entering the fray. Darragh Markey was impressive for Drogheda in the opening exchanges in the second half, dictating the play for the hosts. John Caulfield’s men started to turn the screw in the final quarter and were applying serious pressure on the Louth outfit. United’s pressure finally paid off, when Killian Brouder levelled for the visitors following a Bobby Burns corner.
