FÁILTE JIMMY

Galway United is thrilled to announce the signing of versatile 33 year-old midfielder Jimmy Keohane from Rochdale. Keohane, known for his adaptability and experience, brings a wealth of talent to our squad.

About Jimmy Keohane

Jimmy Keohane, born in 1991, in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England, started his football journey with youth teams Belvedere and Evergreen. His professional career started with Wexford Youths in the League of Ireland, where he scored six goals in 34 games for the Youths. This earned him a move to Bristol City in England, and then a move to Exeter City where he made his debut against Liverpool in cup competition, he stayed for four seasons in Exeter, scoring nine goals and making 81 appearances total for the Grecians.

Keohane then moved on in England with a brief spell at Woking before returning to the League of Ireland where he joined Sligo Rovers. Keohane transferred south to Cork City after a season, where he was under the management of a certain John Caulfield. It was here that Keohane had great successes where he was a pivotal player in a team that won the Premier Division and the FAI Cup under Caulfield. Keohane mentioned that it had a role to play in his return to the League of Ireland. “Yeah, since I left Cork and I was in England, I still kept in contact with John and I spoke to him now and again, and I kept an eye on how he’s been doing here, he’s been building towards getting to the Premier Division and it’s a massive thing for the club”

Keohane then moved back to England after this period with the rebels, signing for Rochdale in 2019. He ended up being very successful there, staying for 6 seasons and making over 200 appearances and scoring 21 goals, even earning the club’s Player Of The Year award in 2020/21. Keohane now has made another move back to the League Of Ireland, reuniting with Caulfield at Galway United. We got his thoughts on the move below:

You can listen in full to Keohane’s thoughts below:

In his first interview as a Galway United player, Keohane expressed his enthusiasm for this new chapter:

“I’m delighted to sign for Galway. I’ve been following the league, and the team has a great sense of togetherness. I attended a game and immediately noticed how much of a team they are and how well they work together. It’s really exciting to be here, and the club seems to be on the rise. I’m thrilled to join. I started in the League of Ireland with Wexford Youths, then moved to Bristol City, and had four years at Exeter City. After a brief spell at Woking, I returned to the League of Ireland with Sligo Rovers and then Cork City, where I know John Caulfield from. I spent six seasons at Rochdale, and now I’m absolutely thrilled to be here at Galway United.”

Keohane also highlighted his versatility as a key asset, we can certainly back that. Just have a look at his impressive positions he’s played in his career (Credit: Transfermarkt):

“My game in the last few years has been about versatility, playing in various positions. I like to get forward and contribute with goals, and working hard for the team is obviously a given.”
