Julie-Ann Russell wins special recognition award from Galway United Friends Co-Op

Julie-Ann Russell wins special recognition award from Galway United Friends Co-Op

Galway United are delighted to announce that Julie-Ann Russell has received a special recognition award from the Galway United Friends Co-Op voted by its overseas members for her outstanding performances and contributions this season.

It has been a stellar year for United star Julie-Ann Russell, who has excelled both at club level with the Tribeswomen and on the international stage with Ireland. Since joining the club just over a year ago, Julie-Ann has made a huge impact. She scored nine goals in an outstanding 2024 campaign for United, which led to her first call-up in a decade to the Senior Ireland Women’s National Team over the summer. Remarkably, she became the first-ever player to represent Ireland’s Senior team while playing for Galway United.

Julie-Ann has helped develop football in Galway and Ireland and shown what’s possible. Julie went on to make four appearances for the “Girls in Green” in 2024*, scoring three goals, with memorable celebrations as she found the back of the net against England, France, and Georgia in UEFA European Championship Qualifiers.

Julie-Ann is now set to play in the Aviva Stadium against Wales in December as the squad look to cement a place in the group stage of the Championship. Tickets are available now if you would like to attend.

Throughout the season, Russell has exemplified many of the club’s core values and ethics in community and hard work. She has balanced training with United several times a week, playing for Ireland, looking after her family, and working as a full time employee. Her determination, work ethic, and professionalism has been truly inspiring, making her a role model for anyone who dreams of becoming an athlete. She is a role model for anybody in women’s sports.

Julie-Ann can now add this special merit award to her collection—if there’s any space left after this remarkable season! She shared her thoughts on receiving the award:
