Galway United v Athlone Town Match Preview

United are back in action for the first time this month as they face Athlone Town in the Women’s Premier Division on Wednesday, 18th October, kick off is at 7.45pm.

Galway United will entertain Athlone Town in Eamon Deacy Park after coming off a 2-0 home win against DLR Waves back in September. The visitors will make the short trip west to Galway on the back of a 1-0 home win against the same opposition two weeks ago.

The two teams, along with Bohemians and Wexford Youths, are battling for fourth place in the league table with United (4th) now four points ahead of Athlone Town (7th). With four games left for both squads, this game is seen as a must-win.

 

 

Previous meetings

This will be the fourth meeting between the two teams in 2023. The sides first met back in March, with United winning 2-1 away in the league thanks with first half goals from Jamie Erickson and Abbie Callanan securing the three points. They met again in the second round of the Avenir Sports All-Island group stages in June, with the game ending in a scoreless draw. Their most recent meeting was in the FAI Cup back in August, with Athlone Town progressing to the next round on penalties after a 0-0 draw after extra time.
