MATCH INFO ℹ️

Galway United vs Sligo Rovers – Friday 25th October 7:45PM at Eamonn Deacy Park

A huge upcoming fixture this Friday, where Galway United take on Sligo Rovers at home in the Connacht derby. With only two games to go this is gearing up to be a fiery affair with league positions and bragging rights on the line. Get your tickets now to avoid disappointment.

Both sides are aiming to bounce back from last Friday’s defeats which saw Galway United come off the wrong end of a narrow 2-1 away loss to St. Patrick’s Athletic, and saw Sligo lose 2-0 at home to Bohemians.

Galway United currently sit in fifth place in the league, two points ahead of Sligo Rovers in sixth. A win on Friday will secure Galway United a top five finish for only the fourth time – second in 85/86, fifth in 87/88, and third in 93/94.

LEAGUE TABLE 📊

FAMILIAR FOES 👊

Friday’s fixture will be the 95th ever meeting between the two Connacht sides, and the 51st meeting at premier level.

Galway United’s record home win v Sligo Rovers is 5-0. A result which has occurred twice – on 25th November 1984 and on 14th January 2000.

The pair have already met three times in the league this season. The first two games finished 0-0, and Sligo came out on top with a 2-0 win in the last fixture. Caulfield and his men will be hoping to rectify that result in Eamonn Deacy Park on Friday.

CAULFIELD'S THOUGHTS 💬

“Final game of the season at home for us Friday night against Sligo. It’ll be great to have a full house. I was saying to the players just make sure that we give everything this season and finish with a home win for our supporters. We look forward to preparing for that all week.”

“Look at our last three or four home games we’re up between three and a half to four and a half thousand. It’s our last home game, a cracking match for everyone to look forward to.”

“Europe is still there, albeit an outside [chance]. But it’s more for our supporters this year. They’ve had a great season, they’ve been behind us all the way. We’re trying to see if we can give them that winners performance at home to send them home happy.”
