MATCH PREVIEW: Wexford vs Galway United (Men’s First Division)
Galway United are back in action again with the third game in seven days for our Senior Men’s side, as they travel to Ferrycarrig Park to take on Wexford FC, kick off is at 7:45pm and it’s LIVE on LOITV.
United are fresh off a 6-0 thumping of Finn Harps at home and have to travel the long distance to Wexford for tonight’s game. Wexford are in good form too, so it will certainly be an interesting clash.
Manager John Caulfield spoke to the club’s media team ahead of Friday’s fixture:
“It’s the third game of the week, they had a draw and a win, and so have we, we’re both in form. It’ll always be difficult and they’ve invested well, I’m looking forward to the game“
LAST MEETING
The last time out against Wexford FC saw United win by two goals to nil in Eamonn Deacy Park, below is Stephen Walsh’s second goal in that encounter.

United are unbeaten against Wexford this season, also shipping four goals away from home and conceding none. Tonight will see United look to extend a great run of form against Wexford, but it will be no easy task as Wexford have put in a number of great performances recently, particularly from Striker Aaron Dobbs as discussed below. They have garnered seven points out of a possible nine in the last three and look to go at United in tonight’s game to extend the great run of form.
ABOUT WEXFORD FC
Wexford FC come into the game fresh off a 1-1 draw with Treaty United in Limerick with Darragh Levingston scoring an absolute screamer early on before Treaty equalised later into the game. This performance ended up with Levingston earning a place in the League Of Ireland TOTW. Previously they have had 2-1 wins against Cobh and an emphatic 6-0 win against Kerry, all within the last few weeks, so they are in great form heading into this clash.
Wexford currently sit in 6th place in the SSE Men’s First Division table and have won six games this season out of a possible 18. They sit 27 points behind United in the league table.
They have two key suspensions as both Ethan Boyle and goalscorer above, Darragh Levingston are suspended for the game.
By far one of Wexford’s key performers this year is Aaron Dobbs (pictured below) who has 10 goals to his name this season so far and certainly one to keep a close eye on in this evening’s game. The former Shamrock Rovers, Longford Town and Shelbourne player has had a great run of form for the side recently and is looking to add to his tally against United’s defense tonight.
