United double their lead as Abbie Callanan takes advantage of a fumble by the Athlone Town goalkeeper, Peterkin. United have been under pressure for the majority of the first half but capitalise on the few chances they have had.

The teams go into the break, with Galway United two to the good, Athlone having the majority of the ball and chances in the first half. There’s a big second half ahead for both teams.

Athlone make a substitute at half-time as former United player Kate Slevin is subbed off for Dana Scheriff. Athlone again start the half well and put the pressure on the United defense from the offset.

Abbie Callanan makes a marauding run down the left wing and then puts a ball across the box to Aoife Thompson who stretches for the ball but puts it just wide, great chance for United!

Athlone won’t back down, as they have two close chances in the space of a few minutes, the game is far from over with just under 40 minutes left, the next goal is crucial.

United make changes in the 70th and 73rd minute, as Amy Madden and Rola Olusola come on for Nicole McNamara and Abbie Callanan.

80′ A CHAOTIC LAST TEN MINITES

Athlone keep up their sustained pressure, but United are coping very well defensively and countering well with the pace of the newly introduced Rola Olusola down the left.

87′ ATHLONE COME CLOSE TO EQUALISING

Athlone really pile on the pressure, as the ball is launched into the box and Muireann Devaney touches it down past a United player but it roles into the arms of Jessica Berlin.

90′ IT ALL COMES TO A CLOSE

Aoife Thompson is replaced by Jodie Griffin in the closing stages, as four minutes of additional time are added.
