Galway United are delighted to announce the loan signing of attacking midfielder Max Wilson from Preston North End for the duration of the 2025 season.
18-year-old Wilson has been with Preston North End since U9s level, progressing through the academy ranks and establishing himself as a standout talent. Known for his versatility, he is capable of playing across midfield and has also featured as a centre-forward on multiple occasions.
Wilson captained Preston North End’s FA Youth Cup side this season, playing a key role in their 4-1 victory over Liverpool, where he got on the scoresheet, before bowing out against Manchester United in the next round. His performances at youth level have not gone unnoticed, earning him the club’s Scholar of the Year award at the end of his first full season with the U19s.

Speaking about his move to Eamonn Deacy Park, Max shared his excitement for the challenge ahead:
“I’m delighted to sign, I’ve been in with the lads for a few weeks now and I can’t wait to get going. i’m looking forward to taking my career to the next level, it should be a challenge but it’s one I’m looking forward to.”
Max also gave an insight into his playing style and what the Galway United faithful can expect:
“I like to drive with the ball and make things happen. Get the ball into the box and create chances. I’m really looking forward to playing in front of the fans this season especially.”
Max becomes the second player to join from Preston North End following Greg Cunningham‘s arrival in the summer of 2024. The two had also played together briefly in a few reserve games in 2024, as Max cited how crucial it is to have players of that mould leading into the 2025 season. “It’s a great group here, a brilliant bunch of lads, so I can’t wait now to get the season started”
