Galway United are delighted to announce the signing of 19-year-old defender Niamh Cotter.
Niamh Cotter, a Cork native from Bandon started her career with Cork City. Initially joining up with their WU19 squad in 2022. The following year she was called up to City’s senior side. Cotter already has three seasons at senior level under her belt, after just turning nineteen just a few weeks ago. Niamh made her senior debut against Treaty United in 2023, and since then she has become a key figure with The Rebels.
At just eighteen Niamh Cotter was made vice captain of the club. Her efforts were rewarded internationally aswell as she was called up to the Republic of Ireland WU19 side. With the girls in green Cotter actually played with a number of United stars, recently in a squad with Nicole Nix and Ceola Bergin. Niamh is certainly a fantastic addition to the squad, especially given her experience at her age.
Speaking about her signing, Niamh Cotter said:
“Yeah I’m really excited and buzzing now to have signed, everyone has been so welcoming and there’s such a good atmosphere at the club. As a defender I’ve always hated paying against Galway United so it’ll be good to be on other side. I’m a defender who loves to defend, I’m aggressive, physical and passionate. Just can’t wait to get started.
