Goalkeeper, Maria O’Sullivan hails from Ballincollig, Co. Cork and spent the last four years in the United States before joining Galway United.

Maria is a keeper with international pedigree. In terms of her playing style, Maria herself described it to us at her unveiling. “I like to play out from the back and have the ball at my feet, I like playing high and I’d like to think I bring experience.” has represented Ireland at underage level, competing at the U19 European Championships. O’Sullivan was also a part of the U15 and U16 National sides. O’Sullivan played for Cork City from 2017-20. Maria was nominated for the league player of the year in 2019 and became Cork City captain in her final year with the Rebels before moving stateside.

Maria moved to the United States for education in 2020 and developed her football career further. O’Sullivan joined Fordham University in New York. Maria started in all eight matches in the spring season for the side and made 23 saves across those games. For her outstanding performances O’Sullivan became a member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honour Roll.

In 2021 O’Sullivan didn’t get regular football due to an unfortunate injury but was immense when she did feature. Limited to just five matches through the year, she didn’t lose any of those games and yet again was named in the commissioner’s Honour Roll. In 2022 Maria came back to play regularly for the Rams and yet again was a star for the University side before moving to fellow New York based side St. John’s in 2023. Here O’Sullivan yet again played regularly putting in some key performances, and at the end of the season Maria decided to travel back across the atlantic after a number of successful years in the States.

Maria explained her decision to join Galway United when returning back to Ireland by saying “I’ve played against them a few times, it’s a great club. I’m delighted to be here and want to challenge for the league, it’s a great group of girls so can’t wait to get started” Maria O’Sullivan has now moved back across the Atlantic ocean to Galway United as she looks to keep her fantastic form with the Tribeswomen in 2024.
