Rachel Kearns signs for Galway United

Galway United are delighted to announce that Rachel Kearns has signed for our senior women’s side ahead of the 2025 season.
The Mayo native and Geelong Cats star will be part of the United squad while at home during a break in the AFLW season back in Australia.

Rachel is currently a celebrated member of the Geelong Cats AFLW side having moved to Australia and signing for them in 2022, quickly becoming a household name for her performances. Last year she was one of three nominees for the prestigious “2024 Virgin Mark of the Year”.
Prior to joining the Australian side, Galway fans will remember Kearns’ impressive run during her brief stint with Galway Women’s FC. Signing up for the 2021 season, the Crossmolina native scored a hat-trick in the opening game of the season against Cork City before going on to score in the games against Bohemians, DLR Waves and Treaty United, earning her the SSE Airtricity Women’s National League Player of the Month award.

Commenting on Rachel’s signing, First Team Manager, Phil Trill says:
“Rachel is a player who lit up the league in her previous short spell, with a great work rate and eye for goal. She is a fulltime professional athlete that will add to our environment and culture within the group.”

Kearns has proven herself as a top athlete across multiple sports, earning two LGFA All-Star awards while representing her home county, Mayo. She has also demonstrated her skill in the boxing ring, winning two All-Ireland medals, highlighting her versatility and competitive ability.
