Sean Kerrigan signs for Galway United

Galway United is thrilled to announce the signing of Sean Kerrigan, a dynamic attacking player, who joins the club after a successful spell in the United States collegiate system.

Kerrigan’s footballing journey began with the Sligo Rovers U17 and U19 squads before progressing to Finn Harps U19s in 2021. Seeking both footballing and academic opportunities, he moved to the U.S., where he played for Mercyhurst University and later Michigan State University. His time abroad saw him be hugely successful at the level with his college sides. Now with his degrees in the United States finished, he’s come back home to Ireland to “give it 100%” with his first professional club at senior level.

Reflecting on his decision to join Galway United, Kerrigan said:
“I’m happy to be here. After being away from home for a long time, it’s great to play football close to home again. Joining Galway United as my first professional team is a great challenge, and I’m looking forward to learning from the experienced group here.”

A Standout Collegiate Career
Kerrigan’s time in the U.S. was marked by standout performances. At Mercyhurst, he netted an astonishing 20 goals in the 2022 season, ranking among the top scorers in NCAA Division II and earning multiple honours, including PSAC West First Team and DII CCA All-American recognition. His versatility and consistency carried over to Michigan State, where he led the team in scoring during the 2023 season, contributing six goals and four of which were game-winning goals.

On his time abroad, Kerrigan shared:
“Being away from home taught me a lot, but having my degree gives me the freedom to focus fully on football now. I enjoyed my time at both universities, and now I’m ready to give this opportunity 100% and go for it.”

Style of Play and What Fans Can Expect
Describing his approach on the pitch, Kerrigan said:
“I like to think of myself as a direct, attacking player who works hard for the team. I enjoy creating chances, scoring goals, and taking on players. I’m looking forward to showing what I can do.”

With his PK tonight, Sean Kerrigan now has 3 goals in his last 3 games, and now leads the team in goals… and the @RedCedarRowdies are lovin’ it!!
