Taylor’s Bar and Beer Garden join as Match Partners for Senior Women’s game against Treaty United

Galway United are delighted to announce that Taylor’s Bar and Beer Garden will be Match Partners for the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup quarter final against Treaty United.

Taylor’s Bar and Beer Garden is one of the best places to watch sport and to go on a night out in Galway. They show all the sports including Soccer, rugby, and GAA.

Taylor’s is the ultimate fusion of music and sport. They have live music 7-nights a week. From 9:30pm Monday to Thursday, Taylor’s have some of Galway’s best musicians belting out the tunes! From 7:00pm Friday and Saturday they have live musicians followed by live DJs from 9:30 until late!

The Building where Taylor’s is based was built in 1830 along with the buildings to the right hand side as 3 separate Merchants Houses. The proximity to the docks and canal system meant it was an ideal location for traders to visit and strike deals with merchants and arrange for travel of goods from Galway on the seas or locally along the canals, up the Corrib river & lake and beyond.

In the early 1900s, the property came into Irish ownership and was converted to a retail grocery & bar.  Originally, it opened as a Public House under McDonnells (The well worn remains of the limestone engraved nameplate at the main door still have the “McD” & “ll’s” visible on the floor!), then Cosgrove’s for a while and in the late 1940’s was purchased by Paddy & Vera Taylor and is since known as Taylors Bar.

Mick Taylor, son of Paddy & Vera, took over the running of the bar in 1980 and was a very progressive & benevolent publican, allegedly having Galway’s first Barbeque in a Beer Garden, first pub to have coffee and first to have a wine list.

The bar itself is a listed property, listed for its timberwork, marble counters and stained glass.
