The Stats with Julian Canny 📊
It will be the first time the clubs have ever met but it will be the 20th time United have faced a non-league side in an FAI Cup tie. We have qualified on 18 of those 19 ties, losing to Cobh Ramblers in 1981.
We have played six teams from the Leinster Senior League previously in the FAI Cup, winning all six.
Player milestones for the match:
Stephen Walsh continues to close in on Kevin Cassidy’s all-time appearance record. Bohs was his 356th game for the club so he’s only 11 behind.

Last time out 📆
Last time out United won a very dramatic Connacht Derby against Sligo Rovers. United found themselves 2-0 down very early on in the first half, but a hugely impressive second half turnaround saw United dominate and score four in 45 minutes. Former United keeper Jessica Berlin joined current United keeper Jayne Merren on commentary. You can watch the highlights below:
Phil Trill’s thoughts 🎙️
Phil Trill is expecting a tough battle against the league leaders and gave his thoughts below:
“We should be full of belief going to Athlone now. They’re top of the table, the pressure is on them and it’s a free hit. The last time we played them we were two nil or three nil down at half-time depending on your VAR score, and deservedly so. We didn’t perform well that first half but we addressed it, I’d be expecting a bit of bite to this game on Saturday and certainly one to look forward to.”
