Team News 🗞️

United will be without the services of Jimmy Keohane and Conor McCormack, who suffered a concussion last week. Patrick Hickey is also a doubt for the game and will undergo a fitness assessment prior to kick off.
Speaking ahead of the game, United manager, John Caulfield stated that Friday’s game will be a difficult challenge for his side.
“Kevin Doherty has done a great job up there. It’s always a tough venue to get a result, it will be a tough game. We are aware of their threats with Oluwa and Davies up top. They’ve been very good for them this season.”

Away from home we have faced Drogheda 40 times.
Since returning to the Premier Division last season we have faced them six times and have three wins and three draws, one win and two draws from the three away meetings.
Our record away win came in August 1993. In March 1996 we suffered our heaviest away defeat Drogs, losing 1-6 as both clubs headed for relegation.

SATURDAY – SHAMROCK ROVERS (H) 🟢

Phil Trill’s side come into this game following a 2-1 defeat to Shels, while Rovers come into this game following a 3-1 win against Waterford in the FAI Cup last weekend. This is a huge game for our side as they look to claim a third All Island Cup on the trot.
Speaking ahead of the game, United manager, Trill, said he is expecting a tough game this weekend.
“It’s a big game, we are really focused for it. They’ve changed from last year and have evolved, on their day they are a really good team. Yes we bet them last year, but that is last year.
“We want to make sure this Saturday there is a good crowd in, and we want to give them a good performance.”

The Stats with Julian Canny 📊

We have faced Rovers women’s side six times with United winning three, drawing twice (including last year’s final as is inclusive of results over 90 minutes) and losing just once.
Three of the meetings have been in Galway, all in the league, drawing 1-1 in April 2023, with Gemma McGuinness on the scoresheet. In August 2024 Jenna Slattery scored the only goal of the match, while earlier this season we beat them 3-2 taking the lead three times thanks to Abbie Callanan, Niamh Farrelly and Emma Doherty’s winner, shortly after Amanda Smith had a penalty saved. The game will be remembered for Ruesha Littlejohn’s goal from the kick-off immediately after Niamh Farrelly’s goal. Littlejohn was released by Rovers this week.
Last year’s All-Island Cup Quarter-Final saw us beat Treaty United 1-0 at home, again a Jenna Slattery goal was the difference. In 2023 there was no QF, though our final group game against Shelbourne was effectively one, with the winner guaranteed a place in the semi-final, we won 2-0.
