PREVIEW | Wexford
Galway United travel to Ferrycarrig Park on Friday night for the Tribesmens’ first away trip of the 2019 SSE Airtricity League First Division season. Kick-off is at 7.45pm.
Alan Murphy’s squad showed great promise against title favourites Shelbourne despite tasting defeat, with many positives to build upon, on a night that Colin Kelly and Vinny Faherty both opened their 2019 accounts with a brace of fantastic efforts.
“We fielded a starting eleven with seven under-21 players, that for large portions of the game performed very well and limited Shelbourne to very few chances for the first 75 minutes at least. It’s certainly something to build on going into Friday night,” Murphy told www.galwayunitedfc.ie.
ALAN MURPHY ON THE FIRST AWAY FIXTURE OF THE SEASON
Ten-man Wexford fell to a 4-2 defeat against in Athlone last week, but are unlikely to be disheartened by the setback.
“It’s always a challenge going to Wexford and a long journey on a Friday for the squad. They went ahead against Athlone last week before having a man sent off. That is the sort are thing they will be looking to as a positive from their performance, in spite of losing on the opening night. It probably would have been a very different game but for the dismissal,” Murphy explained.
“We need to have our homework done on this Wexford side, but we’re also very positive about going to Ferrycarrig Park to get a result.”
