Galway United can confirm that Wilson Waweru has departed the club having initially come through the club’s academy, then progressing to the first team and spending the 2023 season on loan at Cobh Ramblers.

“We wish Wilson well, he had a good time in his years at Galway but didn’t want to come back for 2024 so we are in the process of settling the compensation fee with Sligo Rovers.”

Manager John Caulfield also confirmed the departure of several players from the 2023 league winning squad.

“We also would like to thank all the players who made a massive contribution to our league winning campaign in 2023 and have moved on: Mikie Rowe, Rob Manley, Darren Clarke, Oisin O’ Reilly, Evan O’ Connor and Alex Rutter”
