Kaylee Hammer joins United!

Fáilte Kaylee Hammer!

Galway United are delighted to share the signing of goalkeeper Kaylee Hammer. 25-year-old Kaylee hails from the United States in Memphis, Tennessee.

Kaylee, or “hammer” as she is known described her playing style to us at her unveiling in Eamonn Deacy Park. “I’ve been playing football since I could walk, at maybe three or four years old, I’ve always been an aggressive and intense player. As a keeper I have quick feet and I’m quick to the ball”

Kaylee played for the University of Alabama and the University of Kennesaw for her graduate degree. In High School Hammer played football for the Lobo Rush, where she was State Finalist, Region three Finalist and earned a place in the Nationals Qualifier while playing for the Rush at the age of 16. Hammer then appeared in three state championships at Houston High School, taking home the title in 2013 and 2015, while finishing runner-up in 2014. Hammer throughout her teens won multiple awards including the Rookie of the Year in 2013 and Freshman MVP in the same year. Followed by Goalkeeper of the year, Defensive MVP and qualifying for the All-State team twice all in the space of three years. Kaylee has refined her goalkeeping skills since in Alabama and Kennesaw and now at 25-years-old she looks to take the next step of her career in Europe.

Kaylee noted she was watching United from abroad and admired the style of play and once she got talking to Phil Trill and staff she loved the culture of the club and also the city. “I really enjoyed watching the games last year, the style of play was really inviting” Kaylee also expanded on the change of lifestyle “Leaving America is a big step. Galway is gorgeous, the whole country is gorgeous. It was kind of a no brainer once I got the fifth ‘Oh my gosh no way, you’re going to Galway, it’s so nice’ from my friends. So I can’t wait to get started here”
