MATCH PREVIEW: Athlone Town vs Galway United (Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup)
WELCOME TO THE MATCH PREVIEW π²
Galway United kick off their Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup campaign as the Tribeswomen make the short trip to Athlone to face Athlone Town.
The Tribeswomen make the short trip up the M6 as they face Athlone Town in Round 1 of the Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup.
The Town returned to league action last week under new management with CiarΓ‘n Kilduff taking the reins in the midlands, coming away with a 2-0 win vs Sligo Rovers in his first game in charge. Kilduff was busy during the transfer window, unveiling five new signings to his squad.
Both sides will be heading into this game with a point to prove as United are looking to continue their cup form as All-Island Cup champions, and Athlone having been Women’s FAI Cup finalists in 2022.
KICK OFF IS 7PM AT THE ATHLONE TOWN STADIUM
Match Tickets will be available on the gate.
Last Meeting: Galway United 0-0 Athlone Town
Athlone Town were the visitors to Eamonn Deacy Park last time out, both teams played out a 0-0 draw in Round 2 of the Avenir Sports All Island Cup group stage. It was a cagey affair, with a draw meaning that Athlone would not make it out of Group A, and United would go into the final round of the group stage with a chance of progressing vs Shelbourne.
Phil Trill will be hoping his side can build on their recent form, winning four of their last five games in all competitions, drawing once.
π£ Phil Trill: "Any time you go and play in the Athlone Town Stadium, it's a difficult game. I think it'll be a tense game, they have some really good players that we know quite well; players that would have played underage in Galway. We'll go into tomorrow's game and play exactly how we like to play and see where we end up on the back of that in the cup.β
