Previous Encounters

We haven’t encountered Drogheda often in the top flight in recent years, but feel free to take a look back on some older games below!

77th meeting between the clubs

  • Just 16 wins, 24 draws and 36 defeats
  • Drogheda have won the last 5 meetings between the clubs and our last win over them was in 2017 when we beat them 4-1 at home thanks to a Gavin Holohan hat-trick. Drogs were relegated alongside us that season and in the eight Division 1 meetings since then they beat us 6 times and drew twice, winning all 4 meetings in Galway.
  • Our home record is 10 wins, 11 draws and 18 losses from 39 meetings
  • Our top flight record in 54 matches played against them 12 wins, 18 draws & 24 defeats.
  • If they win on Friday it would equal their longest winning sequence against us when they won six meetings across the 95/96 Premier season (when we both got relegated) and the 96/97 First Division when they won promotion back to the Premier at the first attempt.
  • If they play, Killian Brouder will be making his 120th appearance and Regan Donelon his 30th.
  • The only ex-player on Drogs books is Gary Deegan. Deegan came to the club under Tony Cousins in 2008 but Cousins was sacked early into the season before Billy Clery took charge for a few games prior to Jeff Kenna coming in. He left for Bohs in the middle of the season before moving to play in the UK making nearly 300 appearances there.
  • On this day: 8th March… Potentially one of the worst dates in the club’s history! 6 matches played and we’ve lost them all! Most recently 5 years ago in 2019 we lost 0-1 at home to Bray when Dean O’Halloran scored. Another 8th March defeat was losing our cup title defence again with a 0-1 defeat against Bray.
