Regan started his career with Sligo Rovers at an U19 level in 2013 and was named in their first team squad ahead of the 2014 Premier Division season. He made his senior debut in 2014 and made eight appearances that season.

In October 2016 Regan signed a new two-year deal at Sligo Rovers and he continued to play with the Bit O’ Red for the next five seasons, leaving the club in January 2022 to join fellow Premier Division side Finn Harps. That season ended in relegation for Harps and Regan left Finn Park to join Galway United at Eamonn Deacy Park, following in the foot steps of United assistant manage Ollie Horgan.

He brought a lot of experience to the defensive line this season, playing 25 times in 2023. Helping United win the league in spectacular fashion. He will be a big asset now that United have got promoted also, having already played 150+ games in the Premier Division. Donelon, who usually plays as a versatile full back, has a brilliant delivery and will offers, both in defense and attack for United and certainly will be a key player for 2024.
