Match Preview | Finn Harps

A place in the Quarter-Final of the EA SPORTS Cup is at stake at Eamonn Deacy Park on Monday night. Galway United host Finn Harps, who they knocked out of the competition last season. Kick-off: 7.45pm.

United faced Ollie Horgan’s men just 10 days ago in league action at Eamonn Deacy Park and the Tribesmen ran out 1-0 winners in an evenly contested encounter.

Tommy Dunne’s side reached the final of the competition last year, losing on penalties to St Patrick’s Athletic. Tommy Dunne insists the EA SPORTS Cup is a competition he wants to be competitive in once again.

TOMMY DUNNE | “ANY COMPETITION WE’RE ENTERING WE WANT TO BE COMPETITIVE.”
“We’re going into another home game we want to try and win. We want to push ourselves on in the competition again.

“We’ve got Finn Harps coming to town, they’re a good team and they have started the season very well. They’re getting results. We’re expecting another really tough game against them.

“We’re looking at bringing in one or two of the younger players but we have to careful, we need to make sure that all the players are getting an opportunity to play and get some game time under their belts. We have to put out a team to win the match.

“The players that come in will be pushing for first team places and the players who stay in the team will be looking to perform to a level that makes sure they keep their place.

“Any competition we’re entering we want to be competitive. It doesn’t change. The players that come in, they need to perform. Everybody needs to perform.”
